Register of health and safety legislation - workplace

Our Register of Health and Safety Legislation provides a good summary of the law which may apply to your business. It’s particularly useful if you’re going for certification such as ISO 45001. This part is on the topic - workplace.

How should you use it?

The register sets out the various pieces of core legislation which apply to your business. We’ve included the most common regulations which apply, leaving you to simply add anything a bit more unusual associated with your area of specialism.

It has columns headed:

Legislation”, where we’ve listed Acts and regulations relating to general workplace safety and health, work at height, fire safety, confined spaces, occupiers liability, disability, legionella, food hygiene, asbestos, radon and manual handling. These include regional legislation too, meaning you can instantly see what legislation applies in Scotland and Northern Ireland, not only England and Wales,

Summary”, where there’s a brief description of the requirements imposed by each piece of legislation,

Regulator”, which lists whether the HSE, local authority or fire and rescue service is likely to be the relevant enforcing authority, and,

Aspects of activities affected” where you’re invited to describe how and why the legislation affects you” and where you should, “refer to internal documents”.

You should check over all of the suggested content, but in particular you’ll need to tailor the last column to reflect the health and safety arrangements you have in place.
